The knowledge management in Avio

In 1997, Avio began a methodical collection of his technical memories to support product development processes. This work was based on careful control of information, noting the structure of the processes of design of all its products.

Objectives
The accuracy of descriptions of standardized processes and their availability for other people's use (in terms of ease of use, upgrade, etc..) remain key factors to save the experts' valuable time. If we share the knowledge with established procedure, it is no longer a need to execute work activities already carried out and qualified on the basis of real experiences. If there are few people who know the processes and methods, the Company ability to efficiently solve a specific problem is limited. It is possible to easily remedy such a shortcoming by providing a simplified description of the processes that affect this engagement and input data to be considered, the output to be generated at each step, equipment and methods most appropriate and so on.

How does it work?
The system of knowledge management is based on a Process Development Product (INP) and about the optimization of the resulting expertise. The need to have a valid description of the process comes from the desire to provide a valuable support to those in Company does not have full autonomy in problem solving. In Avio a team can access the methods to carry out their activities in consultation with experts, consulting the system of Memories Techniques course as well as accessing resources such as books, manuals, regulations, etc.. Through the cycle described in the picture that enables a controlled collaboration ("wiki like") the system is constantly updated.

For each product, phase and process activity, the Technique Memories system provides many elements including:
  • the practices: structured description of an ordered sequence of activities (process) representative of a technique or a methodology that, through experience and research, proved to be reliable to achieve the desired result (deliverable)
  • methods and tools to consider and use
  • lessons learned: the fruit of past experiences
Following it is shown the outline representing the management system of Practice supporting the product development process.
