    SPEY MK 807

The Spey Mk807 engine, produced under licence, and assigned by Rolls-Royce Ltd. to the Italian Ministry of Defence, equips the AM-X fighter aircraft.

Avio is responsible for the precision machining of the engine disks, airfoils, shafts, and support bearings as well as complete engine assembly and testing.

The Spey Mk807 engine is an twin-shaft axial-flow turbofan with four-stage low-pressure compressor, twelve-stage high-pressure compressor, and combustion chamber with ten flame tubes. The high-pressure and low-pressure turbines are both two stages.

    Main engine characteristics

Max Power at SL 11.030 lb
    Overall pressure ratio 17:1

    Assembly and Engine Testing

The SPEY MK807 turbojet, chosen to power the AMX aircraft, is of a dilution twin-shaft type. This turbojet is different from a conventional one because the air mass that goes through it is divided into two flows that join again downstream from the turbines, in the jet pipe, before being discharged by the exhaust nozzle. The turbojet rotating assembly spool comprises:

    • A four-stage low-pressure compressor, driven by a two-stage turbine
    • A twelve-stage high-pressure compressor, driven by a two-stage turbine

    Other Components

Avio is responsible for the production of disks, vanes and blades, shafts and support bearings for the MK 807 Spey engine.
