    Avio participates as partner in the Consortium made up of:

    • Honeywell – Germany 
    • CESA – Spain 
    • Honeywell – UK who is responsible for the design and construction of the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) of the “Typhoon” fighter aircraft

    Auxiliary Power Unit – APU

    Within the framework of this programme, Avio is responsible for the production of the combustion chamber and the outer casings of the compressor and turbine, as well as the assembly and testing of 50% of the units that equip the aircraft of the Air Forces of Italy, Germany, Spain and Great Britain, including 50 % of the units for export.

    The Auxiliary Power Unit is used mainly on the ground with the aim of generating the pneumatic power (compressed-air flow) necessary for:
     

    • starting of the main EJ200 engine through the Aircraft Mounted Accessories Drive (AMAD) and starter installed on it 
    • motoring of the accessories installed on the AMAD during aircraft ground preparation before flight
    •  aircraft conditioning requirements (ECS) on the ground

    Auxiliary Power Unit - APU
