    SaM146

    The SaM146 engine, the result of a collaboration between Snecma and NPO Saturn, was designed to power the Superjet 100 regional jet. In June 2010, the engine was certified, and in 2011 the aircraft began carrying out regular scheduled flights.

    Avio is responsible, via a 10% share in a Risk Revenue Sharing Partnership, for the design, development, production and overhaul of the accessory drive gearbox, as well as the combustion chamber. The latter was designed with the aim of reducing fuel consumption and emissions.

    Main engine characteristics

    Max Power at SL 15,400 - 17,800 lb
    Fan diameter 48.2 inches
    Overall pressure ratio 27.5 - 28.0
    Bypass ratio 4.43

    Avio's module details

    Accessory Drive Train

    The accessory drive train includes:

    • inlet gearboxes (at present only design and development) and of transmission of motion which transfer torque from the engine to the HP box accessories;
    • the vertical transmission shaft (at present only design and development) and the horizontal shaft that connect gearboxes of motion, transmission and accessories;
    • the accessories gearbox, mounted on the static structure of containment of the fan, which operates 7 accessories of the engine and the plane.
    Combustion Chamber

    This is the first program in which Avio takes part with the “design responsibility” combustor, this module is characterized by a technology able to guarantee high combustion efficiencies in respect of the emissions requirements, in terms of environmental impact.
    The combustion chamber of SaM146 includes:

    • module 8: Casing of the combustion chamber consisting of:

    • a diffuser with 88 rooms whose purpose is to convey the air from the compressor the flame tube;

    • pressure casing that includes:

    • combustion chamber casing, mainly to help achieve a correct and uniform distribution of air at various entry ports of the tube flame, as well as protection for any damage of the flame tube;
    • high-pressure turbine casing to meet the requisites of module containment. The pressure casing is forged in one piece (combustor casing and high-pressure turbine).

    • module 9: combustion, which includes:

    • a tube of flame, consisting of:

    • Internal / external liner
    • Combustion chamber dome and relative heat shield
    • External conveyors (cowls) for the injection system and the primary combustion zone
    • coupling flange of combustion chamber and casing
    • 18 conduits (for the housing of many injectors) consists of vorticators suitable to the atomization and mixing of fuel.
