Avio began to address the analysis and design of combustion systems in the '80s in several research, military and space propulsion programs.
Avio currently produces, in the specialized plants of the Centre for Product at Pomigliano (Neaples), combustion chambers and components for reheats for various turbine engines designed for commercial applications; and it is launching the series production of the combustor, that is under Avio's design responsibility, for a new 14,000 lbs turbofan engine. The development of the EJ200 engine afterburning system also helped improving design and capabilities and technologies for processing and testing in this kind of product field.
